Layton, Utah (05/11/2015) No-Kill A New Beginning Animal Rescue Receives Surprise Gift, Buys Much Needed "New" Van
Gabriele “Gabi” Johnson has been rescuing, fostering, and adopting out rescued companion animals for the past 7 years through A New Beginning Animal Rescue (ANBAR), a no-kill, not-profit volunteer-driven organization she founded and based in Roy, Utah.
For the past seven years, she and dedicated ANBAR volunteers struggled to find reliable transport for the animals, using primarily small cars and could only accommodate three rescue pets at a time. Thanks to a generous unrestricted gift from the estate of song composer Sandra Seamons last fall, Johnson has purchased a gently used van with proper heating and cooling to transport the animals. A New Beginnings Animal Rescue was recommended by 4Paws to the heirs of Sandra Seamons, who met with Johnson and ultimately selected ANBAR through a thoughtful process. Johnson said, “This generous and unexpected gift enabled us to double the space and help transport more animals in need. We are deeply grateful for the support and recognition that Ms. Seamons’s estate has given us.”
Johnson began in pet rescue when her son needed to do some volunteer work for one of his Boy Scout badges, and they signed up at an animal shelter in the Huntsville area in 2008. “The first day of going up there, I came home with a very sick and malnourished kitten and started to nurse him back to health. I volunteered with them for a few months but could not agree with the care that these poor animals were receiving. I knew by then, that this is what my calling was and I quietly started all the legal proceedings to start A New Beginning Animal Rescue.”
Johnson’s plan was to find homes for approximately 10 cats and one or two dogs each year. However, the first year, the no-kill organization was able to rescue over 400 cats and 75 dogs, placing them in permanent homes. Since its inception in 2008, A New Beginning Animal Rescue has adopted out approximately 3,000 companion animals (cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, and rabbits) to forever homes in Davis and Weber counties.
The organization’s goal has been to thoughtfully reduce unnecessary euthanasia rates; improve Weber and Davis Counties’ animal welfare with compassion and respect through community building and public education on the mutual benefits of responsible pet parenting; and enhance the quality of life of companion animals in need of a new beginning and a forever home.
The organization’s next step is to expand its fund development strategies, as well as its volunteer board of directors, to begin the process of enhancing services and finding a new and much needed facility. In the meantime, Johnson and her team of 30+ volunteers will continue their unconditional nurturing, care, and finding forever homes for ANBAR companion animals.
A New Beginning Animal Rescue holds adoption events every Saturday from 1:00 to 6:30 PM at the PETCO in Layton. Pets available for adoption are also featured on Petfinder.com.

About A New Beginning Animal Rescue
A New Beginning Animal Rescue (ANBAR) is a volunteer-driven, Utah-based non-profit. Since its inception in 2008, its goal has been to thoughtfully reduce unnecessary euthanasia rates; improve Weber and Davis Counties’ animal welfare with compassion and respect through community building and public education on the mutual benefits of responsible pet parenting; and enhance the quality of life of companion animals in need of a new beginning and a forever home. ANBAR strives to ensure that each and every animal rescued is cared for; treated with compassion, respect, and dignity. ANBAR does not turn away any companion animal but welcomes them regardless of their condition, without a time limit on their stay. A New Beginning Animal Rescue believes that euthanasia should be used only as a humane last resort, to prevent further animal suffering. A New Beginning Animals Rescue has helped nearly 3,000 companion animals (kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs – and rabbits) find their forever homes.
